The first-ever Junior Performing Arts Club at Legacy Park Elementary School, made up of 80 students in Grades three and four, will present "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Legacy Gym.
"It is a musical that has a fun twist to the story of the Wizard of Oz," shared Music Teacher Holly Butz.
The story follows Dorothy and her three friends, Daisy, Denise, and Dot. They fall into a book and arrive in Munchkinland, where they meet three new friends, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion, as they follow the yellow brick road in hopes of meeting the Wizard of Oz. They run into trouble on their journey, however, with not just one witch, but three witches.
She said they've had help from the school staff working on the props, backdrops, and costumes, as well as help from community members.
"We've got Travis Sonnenberg from the community, we've got Kelsey Silljer, and Melissa Wise, and we've got Tara Wagner, also Angela McKnight and Dara Uhren," she said.
"We even had some adults here yesterday working on setting up lights as well. We're pretty fortunate to have such a talented crew helping us out with our first Junior Performing Arts Club."
Butz noted entry is by silver collection at the door, "to help us with some of the rental costs and some of our costs for our props and costumes."
