The 9th Annual Hike for Hospice Hustle was held on Sunday, May 4, in Okotoks.

Despite the chilly conditions, the event saw record numbers, both in the number of participants and in money raised.

In total, 819 people participated in support of the Foothills Country Hospice, representing a 56 per cent increase from last year.

They raised a combined $113,000 for the hospice.

The top individual fundraiser was 83-year-old Margaret Thiessen of High River, with $11,113.

Team Beveridge was the highest fundraising team, bringing in $10,714 in honour of Andrew Beveridge.

The event included 10k and 5k runs, along with 5k and 2k hikes.

Kaelan McKernan finished the 5k run first at 19 minutes and 55 seconds.

The 10k run was won by Quin Hauck at 41 minutes and 31 seconds.

"Foothills Country Hospice extends its deepest thanks to the many volunteers who gave their time to assist with event setup, route support, registration, and logistics," reads a release from the hospice. "Their tireless efforts ensured everything ran smoothly and safely. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the generous local sponsors whose contributions helped offset event costs, allowing even more of the funds raised to go directly toward resident care and family support."

Proceeds will go toward the Foothills Country Hospice's end-of-life, bereavement, and community support services.

The hospice is already preparing for next year's 10th annual Hike for Hospice Hustle.
