The rough ride along 14th Avenue NE in Altona will soon be much smoother. Looking westbound Tuesday evening.

If you ask anyone in Altona what is the bumpiest stretch of road in town, a lot folks would probably say 14th Avenue North East. Mayor Harv Schroeder says that is about to change shortly, with work slated for the concrete stretch in the coming weeks.

"Nelson River Construction will have their saw crew in as soon as Friday, and next week will complete a couple of small patches in preparation for diamond grinding, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday after the long weekend, weather permitting, and that is along 14th Avenue North East."

Public works taking advantage of weather

Meanwhile, Altona's Public Works crews are taking advantage of the warm and dry Spring weather, and are currently in the midst of a number projects.

"Boulevard sweeping should wrap up by the end of this week," he said ."We've had a small crew out doing topsoil and seeding in areas damaged through the winter, as well as any damage caused by boulevard sweeping. If something was missed, please call the town office and let them know."

The park is a busy place

As you've taken your daily walk through Altona Centennial Park, you've probably noticed a lot of activity happening by the Parks and Recreation team.

"The seasonal washrooms at Centennial Park, the small washroom building is open near the campground, and the main washroom building is getting cleaned up and renovated from some vandalism in Fall, so hoping that later this week that will be open," he said. "The tennis and pickleball courts, they're in the process of washing the court surface off, and we'll be putting up the nets later this week."

A reminder from the Mayor to anyone who would like to book a shelter in either Altona Centennial Park or Ash Park, those free reservations can me made through the Rec Office.
