Dry conditions are expected to continue in the Foothills region for the week.
In April, the Okotoks area saw about 21.2 mm of precipitation, compared to the 33.2 mm that is normal for this time of year.
“It has been a little bit drier and now we're starting to get into what are considered our wetter months as we head into our summer season,” said Christy Climenhaga, Scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
An upper ridge is currently building, which is expected to keep the weather warmer and relatively dry over much of the province.
The Okotoks area is expected to reach well above the normal 14°C daytime highs this week.
“We’re looking at temperatures potentially in the mid-20s, we could even see some higher 20s popping into southern Alberta tomorrow afternoon,” Climenhaga said.
Temperatures will begin to cool down towards the end of the week, before warming up again in time for the weekend.
“A very warm forecast and dry through this week, before we start to get a little closer to normal next week with more unsettled, showery weather and temperatures back towards the teens,” Climenhaga said.
Rain is expected to begin early next week on Monday (May 12), through to Tuesday.
“It's a hit or miss depending on what weather model we look at,” Climenhaga said. “There are some that are looking at quite a bit of rainfall through the province, a good soaking, and others that aren't pulling as much at all. It does look like we will realistically see rain on Monday.”
