Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and Magic 103, AM1190, Country 106.7, and DiscoverWeyburn have teamed up with you to celebrate some local moms with Make My Mother’s Day.
Over the past week, listeners submitted stories about the moms in their lives and why they deserve a night out and a chance at our Massive Mother’s Day prize package.
On Monday, we picked five lucky qualifiers.
Chantel Cooke nominated her mom, Bonnie Adacsi-Cooke, by saying, “My mom is awesome. She keeps my kids for me when I'm working. She makes a point to be at every event my kids are in (plays, concerts, recitals, competitions, etc.). She was also like this with my brother and me when we were younger, even coming on band/school trips every year. She still works four days a week for Keywell Services. She is the reason I can succeed as a single parent. I can never even begin to repay her for all she has done for my kids and me.”
Amelia Loewen also nominated her mother, Anna Wolfe. “My mom has shaped me into who I am today, and everything I've learned in life, I have her to thank. She has always been the strongest woman I've known, working multiple jobs for years to support her children, working extra back-breaking hours just to make sure we had gifts for Christmas or our birthdays. She's had to saddle the role of both parents and has always done her very best to raise her kids the best way possible. She is beautiful, strong, compassionate, selfless, and the very image of a loving mother.”
Meg Manko nominated her friend, Kennedy Rainey, noting, “Kennedy is a mother to three young kiddos and a few fur babies. Last year, their family suffered a devastating loss when their house burned down. Despite the pain of losing everything in the fire, she always stayed positive and hopeful for her family. She works hard, takes care of both her family and friends, and is also an active member of our small community. Kennedy deserves this so very much!”
Tammy Andrews spoke highly of her mother, Gladys Andrews, saying, “I am nominating my momma bear because she's a warrior. I was three years old when my father passed away, leaving my mom with me and my two older brothers. She faced many obstacles and heartache raising 3 young children by herself and still triumphed. Throughout the years, she has always been there, no matter what, for her adult children. She has been a major help to me with childcare for my youngest and my granddaughter, whom I was raising at the time. And she did all of this, despite battling lung cancer twice. She never gave up hope. I could not have done it without her, and I could not live without her. She has since suffered the loss of her oldest child. So, this is for all the obstacles and heartache she has faced, and for the strength and courage she has given throughout it all.”
Gerri Becker nominated her daughter-in-law, Ashley Becker. “Ashley is a great mom! She has a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 3-month-old at home. She plays with them, bakes cookies with them, and does activities. She takes them to many outings, ex. The Spark Centre. curling in winter, public skating, and swimming. She takes them with her whenever possible, even grocery shopping! She is so busy, but her house is always clean. Because everyone is home for supper, there is always a good home-cooked meal. She is a pleasure to be around. Ashley so deserves to be treated to a night out.”
We will be treating these fantastic ladies to a night out at Collabartive Studios this Thursday, starting at 5:30. They get to sit back, relax and enjoy some art and goodies and Bonnie, Anna, Kennedy, Gladys and Ashley will all be in to win our Massive Mother’s Day prize package with goodies from Ice and Ink, Elizabeth McMullen RMT, The Liquor Spot and T&C Dallas Pizza, with special thanks to Fast Track Car and Truck Wash.
Happy Mother’s Day!
