Due to the dry conditions, a Fire Restriction is now in effect for Foothills County.
With high temperatures and wind speeds, the risk of fire increases in areas where dry vegetation is exposed.
Under the restriction, residential fire pits and safe campfires in campgrounds, gas or propane stoves, and wood pellet smokers are still permitted.
Foothills County residents and visitors are urged to use extra caution and be vigilant during this time. Soaking the area near open fire pits with water is recommended.
The county will continue to monitor conditions and the fire risk.
If conditions change, the county can issue a fire ban, where all fires must be fully extinguished, and all existing permits will become void.

The Fire Restriction does not apply to Okotoks or High River, and neither town currently has an advisory in place.
