William ‘Bill’ Comeault
August 30, 1945 - May 2, 2025
William ‘Bill’ Comeault was born on August 30, 1945, to Edward and Mary (née Palfy) Comeault, on the family’s homestead in the Viscount District. He attended St. Alphonse School until Grade 9 and subsequently graduated from Viscount High School. Throughout his early life, Bill assisted with livestock and grain farming on the family farm and worked alongside his brother Fred on various building projects. He also had a tenure with Robin Hood Flour. On January 29, 1969, Bill began his career at Alwinsal Potash Mine, later renamed PCS Lanigan, where he served diligently for nearly 43 years before retiring. He met Mary Kedl in Viscount after she began teaching at St. Alphonse School. They were married in July of 1973 and moved onto the farm where they lived out their married life together. In the seven years that followed, they had three daughters – Christina, Michelle and Cecile. Besides working at the potash mine, Bill also farmed his own land, and worked for his neighbour and close friend, Bill Bleie. Bill's hobbies included fishing, curling, stamp collecting, playing pool and cribbage and watching as many Toronto Maple Leafs’ games as possible. He and Mary spent many hours in the yard, particularly enjoying the cultivation of their vegetable garden. Bill always made sure there were many rows of potatoes planted each year. Additionally, he was known for his willingness to rototill various dirt plots as needed. After retirement, Bill also enjoyed countless mornings of coffee and conversation with so many great friends at the Viscount Seniors’ Centre. He was immensely proud of his daughters, the sons-in-law that came over the years and he had so much love for his five grandchildren, telling stories of their accomplishments and showing photos to his friends. Bill was baptized Catholic and remained actively involved in his church community. He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Chairman of St. Alphonse Parish Council, and one of the founding members of the Cemetery Committee (St. Alphonse, Holy Trinity, and St. John’s). His commitment to his faith continued throughout his adulthood, including participation in Lay Formation with his wife Mary, and becoming a lay presider to ensure that the Catholic community could continue to gather for worship and receive the Eucharist. Bill will be greatly missed and forever cherished by: his wife of nearly 52 years, Mary; his children - Christina Comeault-Zarycki (Kevin), Michelle Gaucher (Todd), and Cecile Klein (Justin); five grandchildren – Nathanael, Gemma, Mirielle, Tobias Gaucher, and Owen Klein; his three siblings - Fred (Yvonne) Comeault, Barb Comeault and Paul Comeault; brother-in-law, Frank Koob; three nephews - Chad (Jane) Comeault, Mark (Tanya) Koob, and John (Jenna) Koob; two nieces - Nicky (Chris) Vardas, and Bailey (Clayton) Green -their children; and numerous cousins and friends who crossed paths with him in his life. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward and Mary Comeault; his father and mother in-law, Alois and Christina Kedl; brother-in-law Fr. Aloysius Kedl, OMI; sisters-in-law Rose Koob, Rita Kedl, and Loretta Comeault (née Rolles) ; as well as many special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The Prayer Service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 - 7:00 pm at St. Alphonse Roman Catholic Church, Viscount, SK.
