The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) is currently investigating two separate thefts that occurred last week in the city.

Sergeant Riley Ross explains the first incident took place on Monday, April 28th, when the WPS received a report of a quad stolen from a local business. The stolen vehicle is described as a red 2017 Suzuki 750 CC.

“We determined that the quad was stolen from a business on 12th Street. We do ask the public if they have any information regarding the theft of this quad to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.”

The second incident occurred on Friday, May 2, and involved an e-bike stolen from an apartment complex on 13th Street.

“We have identified a potential suspect in this situation. However, we have yet to locate the bike and that matter is still under investigation. Again, we do ask the public if they have any information regarding the whereabouts or any information in regard to the file to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.”

He also emphasized the importance of recording serial numbers, especially for pedal bikes and e-bikes, to help police recover stolen property.

“It applies to bikes, tools, basically anything that you buy. If it has a serial number, we ask you to document that because it makes it a lot easier for us if you happen to be a victim of theft.”

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 78 calls for service from April 28th to May 4th resulting in a total of nine charges. Of the charges, five were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the City of Weyburn Bylaw.
