Fire crews from both the Town of Crossfield and the City of Airdrie responded to a structure fire Wednesday morning that destroyed one residence.

"As a precautionary measure, several nearby homes were evacuated. We are grateful to report that no injuries have been sustained," Crossfield town officials stated in a written response to DiscoverAirdrie.
The Town of Crossfield posted to social media shortly after 11 a.m., confirming fire crews were on scene along Saskatchewan Street, just west of Crossfield Elementary School.
Residents were asked to avoid the area while crews worked to contain the fire. A temporary reception centre was opened at the Crossfield Curling Club for evacuees, though it was closed a short time later.
By 3 p.m., officials confirmed the fire had been extinguished.
"A fire truck will remain on scene to monitor the site. Please be respectful of barricades surrounding the property," officials added.
Other agencies involved in the response included Alberta Health Services EMS, RCMP, peace officers, and multiple town staff.
"We commend the professionalism and swift response of the Fire Department, our staff, and all other emergency personnel involved. We are especially grateful for the support provided by the City of Airdrie Fire Department," the statement from Crossfield officials continued. "While the damage to property is significant, we are profoundly thankful that there was no loss of life."
Officials have not released information on the cause of the fire.
