The Dewdney Players' latest production brings an old classic back to the stage.
Squabbles is a comedy centred around husband-and-wife Jerry and Alice, whose lives are turned upside down first when Alice's widower father Abe moves in with them, and again when Jerry's mother Mildred does the same.
The cast features beloved Dewdney regulars: Daniel Rose, Kelly Kozak, Patrick Brown, Hollie Darel, Brad Fowler, Ed Sands and Debbie Sands, with Brad Snowden in the director's chair and Jane Platt producing.
It was first performed by the theatre group 25 years ago.
Daniel Rose has had a whale of a time stepping into the role of the irritable jingle writer, Jerry.
"There's so much character to him that just really was like, 'Oh, oh, this is going to be fun, I get to be just miserable and awful.' We got the initial interaction, then through the rehearsal process, we got to really explore these characters, delve into their motivations, and what makes them such unhappy people. It was just a whole lot of fun."
Rose is joined onstage by Kelly Kozak, whose real life informed her portrayal of Alice.
"She's probably one of, if not my favourite role that I've played with Dewdney. I tried to incorporate some of my actual family members into this character because there are so many different traits about her that are so wacky and unbelievable and over the top that are like people I know or some relatives, but just amplified to a thousand."
Squabbles opened on May 2 at the Old Church Theatre, with more shows scheduled for the following two weeks.
Evening shows are scheduled for May 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on May 10 and 17.
