The community continues to rally behind the annual drive by two Cochrane McDonald’s locations in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

David Boehmer, general manager of the Fireside location, said about $20,000 had already been raised from the seven locations in their market as of Monday for their annual McHappy Day. With fingers crossed, they hope to surpass the $30,000 mark by the end of the day. Evenings are traditionally their busiest time.

He said the community has generously supported the annual campaign over the years, both through donations and by promoting the event. As usual, many special guests are on hand to serve food.

“I think the stores are a big part of the community they’re in, and the guest loyalty—having people come back and wanting to support Ronald McDonald House Charities and be part of our efforts as well,” said Boehmer.

This year, they had an advance order of 50 McHappy Meals to kick off food sales. As with all sales that day, a portion is donated to RMHC in addition to direct donations. The stores are also selling brightly coloured McHappy socks featuring iconic McDonald’s characters.

Last year, they raised just over $20,000, most of which went to the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary. Some locations outside of Cochrane share the proceeds with local children’s charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides families with a place to stay close to their seriously ill or injured children as they seek critical medical care away from home. RMHC offers a warm, welcoming home-away-from-home for out-of-town families facing one of life’s toughest challenges. By easing the burden of travel and accommodation, RMHC Alberta helps families stay together when it matters most.
