Geraldine "Gerry" Marjorie Resch
July 26, 1935 - May 4, 2025

Geraldine was born July 26, 1935 to George and Agnes Schneider (Sali) at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Regina. She was named Marjorie Geraldine, but was always known as Geraldine or Gerry to family and friends. She attended Spier Colony School up to completion of Grade 8. She was a great asset to her parents on the farm driving trucks and machinery, milking cows and general farm work. She knew her love, John Resch, her whole life and they were wed November 3, 1953 in St. Paul’s Church in Vibank, SK. This marriage lasted 63 years until John’s passing in 2016.  They farmed a brief time in Lajord area then moved to Griffin SK, and farmed there for 4 years. This is where they started their family. They were blessed with 3 children Darnelda (Nel) (Roland) Clark, children David (Kristine) Clark and Sierra Clark (Rajiv);  Morris (Helen) Resch, children Dawn Resch (Cory and Nathan) Rachel and daughter Teagan Resch, Suzanne Resch (Gretta); Colette (Glenn) Hauser, children Katelyn (Paul) Bzdel son Hunter, Simon (Carmen) Hauser children Ada and William, Kurt Hauser (Dillon). They moved to Regina in 1959 where Gerry worked at Queen City Cleaners, Woolco, and Overhead Door.  In 1975 John was transferred to Kelowna with his work. There she found employment at Knox Mountain Metal in the office and loved it. They had a truck camper that was seen heading up the surrounding mountains every weekend in search of a good fishing spot. After they retired, they set about the second phase of their lives, travel. Gerry and John were great travel partners whether it was long haul flights to Bali, Australia or Europe or having adventures in their motorhome all over British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and many of the US states, they enjoyed the sights, experiences and each other. Gerry and John put family first. We were raised with lots of love, some discipline, strong work ethic, lots of fun and a home that was always open to anyone.  Mom made sure that any friend brought into the house was made to feel welcome and fed, and for some they were made to feel part of the family.

Their home in Kelowna was also invaded by their kids’ friends, the grandkids’ friends and you always knew it would be ok to bring them, because they would be welcomed and fed.  The grandkids remember the card games (especially Skip-Bo), camping, board games, trips, old bikes to ride, throwing balls at the ducks in the yard, but feeding the ducks in the creek, good German noodles with funny names, ice cream at the DQ or McDonald’s and being comforted when needed. Mom was an avid gardener and did lots of canning. Taking advantage of Kelowna’s abundant fruit, she and John made some of the best apple juice. She was also known for her great pickles.

Mom loved watching sports. She attended the Scotties in 2008 when it was in Vernon. Her highlight at the games were when she was able to meet the Jennifer Jones’s team, and as they were coming in she got their pictures and autographs. She also loved to watch hockey on TV, her favorite teams to watch in person were her grandson David’s and great granddaughter’s Teagan. When it came to the CFL, she was conflicted. Living so many years in BC she felt she needed to cheer for the Lions, but she continued to cheer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. When asked who she cheered for when they played each other she said she’s happy for whoever wins.

Our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma had a great laugh, big smile and loved to give hugs, whether you wanted one or not.

The impact of her endless love and caring will remain with us forever.

Gerry is predeceased by her husband John, daughter Nel and brother Lawrence.

A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:30 am from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB. Memorial donations in Geraldine’s memory may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
