With some extreme heat in the rearview mirror, we're now looking at a return of seasonal conditions with a cooldown coming later this week. That'll be joined by a bit of moisture, though a system coming down ahead of time may deposit a little bit first.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientist Christy Climenhaga lays out the first bit of the week we're feeling right away.
"We see a better chance of some more showery weather, some more unsettled weather moving into the province, and a few low-pressure systems bringing in some showers."
As there's a lot of heat and energy in the system, Climenhaga says that's likely to change a bit as the system comes closer to the southeast.
That first shock of rain will be the first of two systems in the area for the week.
"It looks like we have one system coming through that will bring a little bit more rain early in the week to parts of central Saskatchewan at this point, maybe some showers further south, and then another system that looks to bring some more steady rain into your Wednesday and Thursday into the southeast."
Environment Canada will be watching ahead of time for any dangerous weather from that system, but for now, it'll be a good chance to feed some moisture back into the ground.
It will come with a dip in temperatures, back to what we might normally expect for mid-May.
"It looks like we'll start to see a change away from that extreme heat, where we're seeing temperatures in the 30s. Near Monday is still going to be pretty hot, and then by Tuesday we'll start to really see that warm air shifting off towards Manitoba and some cooler, more seasonal air in behind that pool of heat, of hot weather."
Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average of 18 degrees by mid-week, with the possibility of that dropping even further later in the week.
