It's been a busy week for Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services, and it continued Saturday evening.
According to a social media post, at approximately 7:06 pm, firefighters were called to a vehicle fire north of Altona. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.
No additional details are available at this time.
Meanwhile, this past Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, the department was called out three times in about sixteen hours to fires at the Altona Rhineland Waste Disposal site northeast of Altona. Over that timeframe crews had to address three different fires at the site.
Hot, windy and dry conditions Sunday through Wednesday will only add to the fire risk across Southern Manitoba. Numerous municipalities have burn bans or fire restrictions currently in place. You can find the latest list here.
Heat Warnings are in effect Sunday, and expected to last for several days in the Red River Valley and Southeastern Manitoba, as daytime highs soar into the mid 30s. Issued Saturday afternoon, the Heat Warnings were the first of the season in Canada.
