The Mountain View Stingers spoiled the Mother’s Day home opener for the Rocky View Rage on May 11, posting a 12–6 win at Totem One.
Down 5–0 early, the Rage bounced back with four quick goals to close the gap. But the Stingers added one to end the first period up 6–4, then dominated the scoreboard in the final two stanzas.
Rage head coach Reese Sellwood said his team may have come in too confident.
“We were coming into this game thinking we were going to come out here and just stomp them a bit,” said Sellwood. “So I think that was kind of in their heads.”
Last season, the Stingers sat near the bottom of the standings with a 3–13 record and missed the post-season.
The Rage had a record season, advancing to the division final for the first time in their history.

Now, it’s the Rage who find themselves at the bottom of the RMLL Jr. B Tier II South Division early in the year. Their lone win came in an overtime road victory against the Edmonton Warriors.
Two days before the Stingers matchup, the Rage fell 11–6 to the Calgary Wranglers at the Brentwood Sportsplex.
The team has the long weekend off before a pair of home games. On May 23, they’ll seek redemption against the Bandits, who handed them an 11–8 loss in the season opener. The Foothills Spurs visit on Sunday, May 25, for an afternoon tilt.

New look for Rage
In the off-season, team officials undertook a major rebranding. The result is a sharp new uniform design that breaks from the traditional green, red and yellow—colours shared with the Rocky View minor lacrosse association.
Now, the Rage wear green and white, with a bold “R” at the centre of the jersey.
“We were supposed to get them for our first game of the season, but they just arrived. It was like Christmas when they finally showed up,” said Sellwood. “We worked pretty hard on the rebranding.”

He added that the updated jerseys are also lighter.
“These things probably weigh a pound or two less, so the players are pretty pumped.”
