The Completely Branded RentPro Weyburn Razorbacks came out flying Friday night at Tom Zandee Sports Arena, but couldn’t hold off the Moose Jaw Mustangs, who rallied for a 10-5 win in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action.

Weyburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead just two minutes into the game thanks to quick goals from Nick Huntley, Vann Dennis, and Jack Missal. The Razorbacks looked to be in control early, capitalizing on clean passing, well-timed screens, and high-percentage shots.

“Our offence did what they were meant to do,” said Razorbacks coach Keenan Cummings. “Get their passes, throw some screens, throw some picks, take quality shots, and the results were goals. Once we stopped doing that, it showed.”

Moose Jaw responded with a relentless attack, outshooting Weyburn 47-26 throughout the game. Despite a strong showing from the Razorbacks’ penalty kill unit, extended time shorthanded took its toll.

“We spent a lot of time shorthanded,” Cummings noted. “Give it up to our penalty kill, they played great, but playing the whole game shorthanded is never easy.”

Sam Borschowa added two more goals for Weyburn later in the game, but the Mustangs continued to press, eventually pulling away for the five-goal win.

The Razorbacks, now 1-2 on the season, face a quick turnaround as they get set to host the Saskatoon SWAT on Wednesday night.

“Saskatoon’s coming strong, focused,” said Cummings. “They’re doing well this season. We’ve got a couple of days to rest our bodies, practice up, and prepare. It’s a new game, new challenge.”

Wednesday night's game starts at 8 p.m. in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena.
