Students from École Morden Middle School are taking to the stage this week with their production of Finding Nemo Jr., a musical based on the hit 2003 film. The show will be held on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15, at the Access Event Centre in Morden. Performances begin at 7:00 pm, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and are available now at the École Morden Middle School office or at the door.

Meet the cast

The production features Grade 7 and 8 students in the leading roles, with Timothy Klages playing Marlin, Blakely Harries starring as Nemo, and Iya Vipond taking on the role of Dory

Klages describes Marlin as “an anxious stress ball,” adding, “It’s really fun to act out. I get to be panicked like half the time.”

Harries explains her character's journey: “I think Nemo's sort of timid and shy, but he's always really curious to try out new things. He also just doesn't really want to listen to his dad. But then over time, you see him mature and become really appreciative of everything that his father does.”

Vipond says Dory is a character who “doesn't care what other people think about. So basically, when I act her out, I just pretend that I'm in front of like my best friends and I act like my weirdest self.”

Why see the show?

The students say the production is the result of many hours of rehearsal and dedication from both cast and crew.

“The actors are great,” said Klages.

“We've put in so much effort and so many hours of effort, and even Mrs. Clyde, she spent so many hours making props, and I think it's going to be a really great production,” added Harries.

Vipond agreed, saying, “Yeah, we spent a lot of time. It's gonna be like an 11-hour day for us today.”

One of the standout features of the production that the cast is most excited for their audience to see is their creative take on the fan-favourite character, Professor Ray.

“There's going to be this giant Stingray on this girl's back, and she's on a bike, and it's just like, really cool.” Harries shared.
