Estevan police responded to 38 calls for service over the weekend, in addition to the previously reported murder investigation.

On May 9, police received a complaint about several youth causing issues in the parking lot of a local business. Officers attended and spoke to all the youth present, who were warned about their actions.

Officers also responded to a break and enter at a residence. The Forensic Identification Unit was called to process the scene. The matter remains under investigation.

While on patrol, police noticed smoke coming from a building in the 400-block of Kensington Avenue. Estevan Fire Rescue Services was dispatched, and members entered the building to ensure all occupants had vacated. No injuries were reported, although the building sustained some damage. Nothing suspicious was noted, and the fire department concluded its investigation.

On Sunday, police received a complaint about a dog running at large. The animal was located and taken to the Estevan Humane Society. Charges under the city’s animal control bylaw are pending.

Police also responded to a semi tractor-trailer blocking a lane of traffic on Fourth Street downtown. Officers directed traffic while the vehicle repositioned. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to comply with the posted truck route.

Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated woman in a green space behind a condominium complex in the Royal Heights area. She was located, her well-being was confirmed, and she was issued a ticket for possessing alcohol in public.

Both police and EMS responded to a report of a possible drug overdose at a local motel. The individual was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for additional treatment.

Multiple reports of suspicious individuals and intoxicated people were also investigated by police. Officials said the increase in these calls may be linked to the warmer weather.
