The southeast is seeing storms slide into the area, with a week full of bad weather hitting the area. That begins tonight with a thunderstorm that begins in the late hours, which could bring a decent bit of moisture.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Shelley says that the first bit of what we're seeing should be the heaviest.
"That's the main threat for thunderstorm potential there. Then, as we head later into the week, we're going to see a couple of weaker systems move through the area, which is going to provide some precipitation to the area. The heaviest amounts outside of overnight tonight are likely to move through the region on Wednesday morning and through the day, potentially lasting into Thursday as well."
While Shelley says it's difficult to nail down exactly how much rain will be falling, he expects to see somewhere around 10 to 20 millimetres fall over the week, with a chance of getting up to 30 millimetres.
While the rest of the week outside of tonight is forecasted without any thunderstorms, there will still be some activity.
"We're certainly going to be unsettled through the middle of the week in terms of this specific thunderstorm activity. We're expecting that to sort of be pretty high tonight, in the evening tonight, but a lot of that convective precipitation through the middle of the week is primarily just going to be rain as the primary impact there."
Shelley says that tonight it's possible we'll see some strong winds, heavy rain, and even small hail come down across the southeast.
People will need to watch out as thunderstorm watches could be sent out for some areas.
Instead of thunder and big storms, the weather later in the week will focus on cooling down the area below seasonal values.
"This warm, this hot upper ridge that has been influencing the weather over the last several days and will continue through the day today, that will slowly start to push off to the east, and by the time we get into Friday, really, that will have moved off east and through, really into northern Ontario."
Shelley expects the temperature to swing from the 10-15 degrees above average we're seeing today down to 5 degrees below average by the middle of the week.
