The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation (WDHF) is calling local photographers to help adorn the walls of the new hospital.
Whitney Johnson, Office Manager at WDHF, says the foundation is looking for three photos that capture the spirit of Weyburn. These photos will be part of the donor wall in the entrance of the new facility.
“Along with the printed donor names, there will be a digital component as well, and then throughout the wall there are three pillars for images which is why we are holding the photo contest to showcase local photography in those three pillars.”
Johnson explains they decided to call for local photographers both to highlight local talent, and for practicality's sake.
“There's lots of local photographers out there that take great pictures, and it gives them a chance to be featured in the new hospital for years to come. Rather than hiring someone, we are a non-profit, there's lots of people out there that I'm sure would be happy to have their work featured.”
Up to three photographers could have their work displayed, however they are looking for the pieces to be cohesive.
“The donor wall will be viewed as one piece but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be all from the same photographer” she says. “It could be from one photographer, it could be from three, just depends what the images are like and what the committee is looking for.”
There are a few requirements for participants to keep in mind. Image quality must be high resolution, at least 600 dpi and the photos must be taken on a professional camera, not a phone camera. The finished size of each panel will be 20 inches wide by 81 inches tall, this should be kept in mind when framing and composing images.
Images must be submitted to info@wdhf.ca by August 29th.
“We just want to showcase the southeast part of the province. There's lots of different ways and different perspectives on how to do that. So, we're looking forward to seeing what people submit.”
