Weyburn was treated to a thunderstorm yesterday, the first real thunderstorm of the season, and many Weyburnites are now packing up the parkas and breaking out the flip flops.
But is the winter season REALLY over?
We’ve joked many times lately that since we didn’t really get a “second winter”, we aren’t ready to pack up the boots and parkas just yet, and, as Danielle Desjardins of Environment Canada explains, that feeling isn’t entirely off base.
“We are still not out of the spring yet, even though we’re seeing these summer-like temperatures,” she said. “We’re going to see a return to seasonal temperatures this week, so highs in the teens. And because it’s so early in the season, we can’t rule out a risk of frost.”
Looking at the forecast for the week, we are expected to start seeing single-digit daytime highs around Thursday, with a possibility of snow to kick off the May Long Weekend on Saturday.
“I wouldn’t say we are going to need a parka by any means,” she laughed. “However, there still is seasonal temperatures and possibly even below-season temperatures coming up.”
For now, we will continue to switch between winter boots and flip-flops, in true Saskatchewan style.
