Bird River Bible Camp, run by Southland Church in Steinbach, has been evacuated due to a wildfire.
Teena Cole, a pastor at the church, says late this afternoon, the church got a message from camp staff notifying of the evacuation.
"The fires were, according to firefighters, three to four kilometers away at that time, and moving closer," she says.
An emergency evacuation notice in the Rural Municipality of Alexander, says all residents between Hill Road on PR 315 and the Bird River Bridge must evacuate immediately, including the bible camp.
It requested they proceed to an evacuation center at the Great Falls Community Hall in Great Falls.
"As far as our staff are concerned, they were all safely evacuated," Cole says.
She says the church is praying for all the cottagers and homeowners in the area, for fighters, and all those involved.
The pastor urges the community to do the same.
"This isn't the only fire that's going on in Manitoba or even in Canada, and just so many homes are at risk. We just asked for people to pray for safety and, of course, human lives. We want the least amount of loss," Cole says.
She encourages those who have capacity to help those in need and who are suffering loss from the fires.
As Southland Church awaits more information on the outcome of its camp, she says they are just taking it day by day.
"We are confident that, no matter what happens, God is good and he has a good plan for us and all those involved."
