It’s time to mark your calendars and clear out your trunks—Winkler’s Citywide Garage Sale is back for its second year on Saturday, May 24, 2025, and it’s shaping up to be bigger and better.
Organized by local garage sale enthusiast Purity Zacharias, this grassroots community event brings together buyers and sellers across the city for one massive day of secondhand finds, local connections, and sustainable shopping.
“Last year was kind of last minute,” laughs Zacharias. “We pulled it together in two to three weeks and still had around 25 sales. This year, we’ve had more time to plan, and we’re already at about 35 registrations—and counting!”
Why start a Citywide Garage Sale?
When asked what inspired her to spearhead the event, Purity’s answer was simple.
“No one else was doing it,” she says. “I kept seeing people on Facebook asking if Winkler was having one, and there was nothing. I thought, I love garage sales, why not fill the need?”
And fill it she did. The 2025 edition is expected to draw bargain hunters from Winkler and beyond, especially with May long weekend behind us and summer knocking on the door.
The joy of the hunt
Zacharias is the first to admit her motives are slightly selfish—but in the best way.
“I’m doing this so I can go to garage sales,” she jokes. “I’ve got money I want to spend!”
For Purity, the appeal of garage sales runs deep.
“I love anything secondhand. Thrifting, repurposing—it’s better for the environment and for your wallet. You can find work clothes, wedding outfits, home décor, kids' toys... stuff you need without breaking the bank.”
Her favorite section?
“Housewares,” she says without hesitation. “Lately I’ve been into clothes too, but housewares always catch my eye.”
No garage? No problem!
One of the most common questions? "Do I need a garage to participate?"
“You absolutely do not,” says Zacharias. “You can set up in your yard, team up with a neighbor, or even organize something in front of your apartment.”
She points to a great example from last year.
“One apartment strip had a few residents join forces in their front yards. It was awesome to see—and super effective!”
The event is also open to Rosebrook residents, so no one is left out of the fun.

What Purity’s looking for this year
Curious what Zacharias is hoping to score herself this year?“I need some lamps,” she says. “I’ve got blank walls that need art, and I’m always hunting for baskets I can use for gifts. But honestly, what don’t I want?”
So whether you’re shopping, selling, or just soaking in the community spirit, Winkler’s Citywide Garage Sale is the place to be.“It’s such a fun day,” says Zacharias. “People get outside, meet their neighbors, find great stuff, and give items a second life. What’s not to love?”
