Now that children under the age of 12 can get vaccinated pharmacies have been working to meet local demand.
Meagan Hamilton is a pharmacist and owner of Hazlewood Drugs in Boissevain. “We’re a somewhat new vaccine provider and we only started giving vaccines last year. I didn’t quite know how busy we’d be. Between flu and Covid shots, we've done a lot.”
Hamilton had 100 flu vaccine doses and held two clinics. When it comes to Covid vaccines Hamilton says clinics should start within the next few weeks.
“We have an order placed for the pediatric Covid vaccine and we should be getting it anytime and then scheduling our clinic days within the next two weeks.”
Hamilton says they plan to keep on ordering Covid vaccines until they meet all the local demand.
“So far it seems parents are eager to get their children vaccinated. I know it’s harder with kids because we’re making decisions for other people but we definitely believe in the safety and efficacy of the vaccines. My little guy isn’t quite eligible yet but if he was I would be booking an appointment.”
People can check with their local pharmacy about upcoming clinics and appointments. There’s also a vaccine hot line where you can book an appointment anywhere.
