Rhineland Municipality's efforts to lobby the provincial government about drain maintenance took a step forward last week through an on the ground and in-person opportunity.
"Members of Rhineland Council and administration had the opportunity to take Assistant Deputy Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, along with two staff members, on a tour," explained Reeve Don Wiebe during the latest episode of Reeve on the Radio. "The purpose of the tour was to highlight the concerns along the provincial drains in the southwest corner of the municipality, including the Buffalo, the Walhalla and Rosenheim drains."
Key concern areas highlighted
"We were able to show which sections of these drains needed a complete redesign, and also the importance of maintaining these drains," added Wiebe. "We were informed the budget for drain reconstruction is quite limited, but we were encouraged to provide a more detailed sort of an analysis, an assessment, regarding crop loss, the costs that go with that and the frequency of these losses."
The Reeve noted Council and administration would "be doing some homework" on that request.Â
