You may have noticed the Pride crosswalk by the Venue in downtown High River is barely visible this Spring.

It appears to be the result of a few things, according to the Foothills Pride Society group, which made a posting on their Facebook page back in March.

“The Pride Crosswalk in High River was a labour of love—a symbol of visibility, inclusion, and support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. However, due to repeated vandalism, the natural wear and fading of the paint, and changes in town policy, Foothills Pride Society has made the difficult decision not to repaint or renew the crosswalk.

While this decision was not made lightly, the cost of ongoing upkeep is significant, and we believe our resources can be better directed toward initiatives that have a lasting impact for our community.

So, what’s next?
We are actively planning new ways to proudly and securely display our Pride in the Foothills while also working on meaningful events and support initiatives. We can’t wait to share more details with you when we can!

Thank you for your continued support. Our community is more than a crosswalk—it’s the connections we build, the voices we uplift, and the support we show for one another… Stay tuned!”

It looks like they do have one event coming up for Pride month in June. The Picnic with Pride will be at George Lane Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14th. There will be vendors, crafts and activities to do.

The Foothills Pride Society was also just recently granted official non-profit status.
