About 180 employees were evacuated from a large commercial structure in northeast Airdrie on Wednesday morning after a crane accidentally struck and damaged an interior gas line, according to Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Pirie said fire crews responded to a report of a gas leak and staged apparatus with a water supply as a precaution.
ATCO (natural gas) and Fortis (electrical) isolated utilities in the area while the structure was ventilated.
Once the area was deemed safe, utilities were turned on again, and employees were allowed back to their workspace.
No injuries were reported.
Officials did not identify the business or disclose the building’s exact location.
