A Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory has been issued for the town of Radville by the Water Security Agency. The advisory came into effect immediately on Thursday morning and will remain in place until further notice.
The cause of the advisory is due to high turbidity levels in the distribution system, meaning the clarity of the water has fallen outside of acceptable safety standards. Until the water is confirmed safe for consumption, residents are being urged to follow several safety guidelines.
The advisory states that all water intended for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, making ice, or any other use where it could be ingested should be boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.
As well, do not use the water for washing dishes unless it has been boiled, or sanitize dishes by soaking them in a bleach solution (2 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water) for at least two minutes.
Young children and infants should be sponge bathed, and those with weakened immune systems or open wounds should consult a physician before using the water. It is also advised not to drink from public fountains and to consider using an alternative safe water source for consumption.
The Water Security Agency will work with the town, and once the safety conditions are met, the advisory will be lifted.
