Swimming season has returned to Weyburn!
The Weyburn Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool opens for the season today. Communications Coordinator for the City of Weyburn, Paige Tenbult, says they are excited to have the community back in the facility.
“The outdoor pool season is just a great time to get out, connect, relax, make memories in that space, and we're just thrilled to be able to welcome the community back to swimming.”
The opening of the outdoor pool is earlier this year than previously, to accommodate for the closure of the indoor facility. Tenbult explains that there may be some closures on cooler spring days, but these will be posted on the City of Weyburn website and social media.
However, the continuing rainfall won’t cause a delay.
“The pool is still open during rain, but the protocol kicks in place when we see lightning or hear thunder. Our normal protocol is that when we hear those events, we close for 30 minutes after every episode. With the rain, it's good to go, but it's when that lightning and thunder starts to kick in, we have to put that protocol in place.”
The pool will be open for all statutory holidays following regular hours. The pool will open at 6 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends. From Thursday to Saturday the pool will close at 10 p.m., from Sunday to Wednesday, it closes at 9 p.m.
Public and lane swim times alongside special programming is updated live on the City of Weyburn website. Swimming classes are slated to begin in June with after school, weekly, and private sessions.
“A lot of what's going to happen in May for us is just those public swim times and those lane swims, but early June is when those swimming classes do start, so you can register for those at weyburn.ca/xplor.”
