Starting on Tuesday (May 20) you may notice a bus that will be taking residency inside of the parking lot in at Canalta Hotel in Humboldt.

It’s Mammography Bus run by the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. The mobile unit travels around to the province every second year to 42 different stops every second year and provides screening mammography to women 47 and older that are not having any breast symptoms. If women are having breast symptoms, they should be meeting with their healthcare provider.

Laurie Pierce, the Early Detection Coordinator for Breast Screening says the mammography bus offers convenience to those seeking screening.

“The bus was not on the road during COVID and that had a huge impact on women because they would have to travel somewhere else throughout the province because we do have two permanent sites, six satellite sites. But women love to have the bus closer to where they live.

Pierce added, “access to services is really important, so we try to bring that service as close to home for people as possible.”

Throughout the year on average 38,000 are screened with around 8,000 women screened on the bus.

To register for an appointment by calling 1-855-584-8228.

Pierce noted that they are currently booked up with appointments until the final week in Humboldt between June 16-20.

Once the mammography bus leaves Humboldt, the next two stops will be in Wadena from June 30-July 11 and Kelvington from July 14-18.
