Friends and family are rallying behind the children of a couple who died as a result of an out-of-control wildfire in Lac du Bonnet after they were left without a home or parents.

On Tuesday, Lac du Bonnet RCMP were told that two people were trapped in the fire. However, due to the extreme conditions, emergency crews could not reach the pair.

Early the next day, Lac du Bonnet RCMP found two bodies, a woman and a man, who friends have identified as Sue and Richard Nowell, just off Wendigo Road, in the RM of Lac du Bonnet.

RCMP believe the pair died as a result of the fire.

The couple had two sons, Emmett and Ryland, who are now without parents or a family home. To help them get back on their feet, friends and family have started up a GoFundMe account

"These funds will help Emmett and Ryland with any immediate expenses and help them get essentials," said Kim de Laroque on the GoFundMe page.

Anyone wanting to make in-person donations can do so at Warrent Tire (227 MacDonald Ave) in Warren, Manitoba, or at Lake Life Powersports (3997 MB-317) in Lac Du Bonnet.

The Lac du Bonnet fire continues to burn out of control, growing to over 4,000 hectares.
