The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings and Queens are set to represent at the Canadian College Finals Rodeo in Rimbey this weekend at the Co-operators Agrim Centre.
RDP athletes will compete among the top collegiate rodeo competitors from across Canada for the national title during the three-day event, which starts today and runs until Sunday.
The event kicks off with a back number ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Peter Lougheed Centre, followed by the first round of performances at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m.
Saturday the action gets started at 6 p.m. with a tradeshow running from 4-9 p.m., and Sunday doors open at 11 a.m. with performances starting at 12 p.m.
RDP will have six athletes competing in multiple events:
- Elyse Terpsma – Pole bending
- Julia Holtkamp – Goat tying
- Taylor Cholach – Barrel racing
- Ryan Collett – Tie-down roping and steer wrestling
- Garrett Cullum – Steer wrestling
- Casey Thomson – Bareback
The Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization made up of Canadian college and university students and coaches who are passionate about the sport of rodeo and furthering their education through post-secondary opportunities.
The association includes seven rodeo teams across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
These teams take turns hosting eight to 10 rodeos throughout the academic year, from September to April.
The finals mark the last event of the season.
