The South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR) Fashion Show returned Thursday night—bigger and more impactful than ever. Hosted at the Meridian Exhibition Centre in Winkler, the event drew nearly 500 attendees, offering an expanded space to match the growing support for this annual tradition. While fundraising totals are still being finalized, early signs suggest this will serve as a profitable event for the ongoing efforts of SCCR.

Models who inspire

While fashion takes center stage, it’s the stories behind the runway that truly define this evening. Every model who steps out shares a personal connection to cancer—whether they are survivors, currently facing treatment, or walking in support of loved ones.

“This is my first year as a board member, but I’ve attended in the past, and it’s always the stories that move me the most,” shared Eileen Vodden, SCCR board member. “It’s about more than the clothes—it’s about the people wearing them and the resilience they embody.”

Stronger together: A theme that unites

This year’s theme, “Stronger Together,” was chosen with intention, reflecting both the emotional ties between communities and SCCR’s growing reach across southern Manitoba. The decision to move the event to Winkler allowed the organization to welcome more people from across the region, and the atmosphere was one of shared strength and mutual support.

“We chose the theme because of our move to Winkler and how our communities are coming together,” said Shania Ginter, SCCR board secretary. “This show is a testament to the strength we find in each other.”

The impact of SCCR

SCCR continues to provide essential services to individuals and families across the region. From coordinating transportation to treatment, offering accommodations for out-of-town appointments, supplying free wigs and head coverings, to helping relieve the financial burden of cancer care—SCCR’s impact is felt deeply by those it serves.

“The transportation program alone is incredible,” said Vodden. “Radiation treatments can last just 15 minutes, but the travel time can be hours. SCCR helps relieve that burden.”

A celebration with purpose

The night wasn’t just about looking back—it was a celebration of moving forward. Guests enjoyed beautifully presented desserts, a lively rainbow auction, an elegant wine bar, and, of course, a runway show that brought both tears and standing ovations.

From the powerful stories to the vibrant fashion, the evening captured the heart of what SCCR stands for—community, care, and courage.

“This isn’t just a night out—it’s a night that makes a difference,” said Ginter.
