The Town of Okotoks is encouraging youth to contribute to the community by joining local committees and boards.
Town Council created youth positions on the Committees of Council to give youth an opportunity to participate in community discussions and initiatives.
“We want young people to know their voice matters,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “Joining a committee or board is a meaningful way to influence real change, share ideas on the issues that matter to youth, and build valuable skills for the future. It’s a chance to be heard and help shape the place you call home.”
There are openings on several Committees of Council, including the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) committee, the United Way/Okotoks Partnership committee, and the Okotoks Public Library Board.
Member contributions to the FCSS help to build a safe, welcoming community by identifying social issues and support programs. Part of the work includes distributing funds to organizations supporting the community.
The United Way/Okotoks Partnership builds awareness and oversees a community fundraising campaign. The funds are allocated to local not-for-profits that have programs making a positive impact in Okotoks and the surrounding area.
Members of the Okotoks Public Library Board help the library remain vibrant, set policies that address community needs, identify new services and activities, fundraise, and establish the budget.
To join one of the committees, youth must be between 14 and 18 and attend a school in Okotoks.
Applications will be accepted until June 1.
