Lawrence "Larry" Bell
January 23, 1944 – May 14, 2025

Lawrence (Larry) Bell was born January 23, 1944 at his parent’s farm, 3 ½ miles north of Lanigan, Sec 36 TP 33 Rge 22, West of 2nd, and was baptized February 24, 1944 in the United Church at Lanigan. Larry passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025 in Humboldt, SK, surrounded and wrapped with loving care and comfort by family. Larry was predeceased by both his parents Ernest and Elaine (Ingham) Bell, as well as two sisters Mildred (stillborn) and Fay, Richard’s first wife and mother of his children Jeanne Hantke, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, mother-in-law Mrs. Edna Martell, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Larry took his schooling in Lanigan and entered the work force in 1962. He picked up many skills the first couple years of working, including welding, painting, and operating miscellaneous shop equipment, presses, sheers, saws, etc.

On a trip to visit his older sister, he happened to meet the love of his life, Darlene Joy Martell, and after many trips to Buchanan, they were married May 1, 1964. They were blessed with two children Richard Terry and Laurie Lee, who were each blessed with three children of their own; Richard’s children Megan, Josh, and Michaela, and Laurie’s children Jorah, Skylar, and Jenae.

Larry loved the farm life with all nature and animals but found it necessary to move to Humboldt after obtaining a job there with Bowman Bros. Ltd. (Acklands Ltd., then known as Acklands-Grainger) where he worked himself up to being shop foreman for over thirty-five years. After the children became a little older and started going to school, Darlene joined the company and worked as a secretary for over thirty years.

Back to the younger farm days, Larry had a great love for his horses, cattle, and dogs. His uncle George built him a motorized bicycle when he was about eight. That was the beginning of his important life of two wheels. His father bought him a 1952 BSA 250 when he was fifteen, and from then on it never quit. At one time, Larry, Darlene, and both children, were all seen on their motorcycles, calling themselves the Bell Angels. Larry and Darlene rode side by side for many miles over the last thirty-five years, until Darlene had to quit riding as she could no longer operate the clutch for any period of time. It was a sad day for her, giving up her factory ordered 2002 Dyna Glide Lowrider. Larry continued to ride as long as the good Lord was willing. Over the years, they also enjoyed travelling through the prairie provinces, Ontario, the United States, Dominican Republic, and Hong Kong.

Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years DARLENE Bell; son Richard (Renia) Bell and his children Megan (Denver), Josh (Carter), and Michaela (Dylan); and daughter Laurie Bell (Mike) and her children Jorah (Jessica) and their daughter Madison, Skylar, and Jenae.

A Private Family Service was held for Larry. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Westminster United Church (Humboldt) or Humboldt & District SPCA.
