The Town of High River started its daily watch on the Highwood River on Friday.
Typically, it starts a month prior to the first day of summer on June 20, which is also the anniversary of the 2013 flood.

The town analyzes the information and publishes it on the Town of High River's website on Fridays until the end of June.
The first update of the season is looking excellent for no flooding; however, it will have farmers and ranchers concerned as the snowpack is well below normal.
"The snowpack is well below average for this time of year and is currently at 236mm of snow water equivalent. At this time last year, we were right around 375 mm of snow water equivalent. Currently, the Highwood River below the canal is still below average and a water shortage advisory is in place on the Highwood River. The forecasts are indicating some precipitation is expected over the long weekend and into next week. Town staff will continuously monitor the snow and the river situation closely for the remainder of the hazard season."
The Town just recently closed the bridge to test to ensure the flood gate is working properly.
