Performances begin tonight for the Weyburn Comprehensive School's Junior Musical, 'Shrek', featuring Grade 7, 8, and 9 students.

Band Teacher and Musical Director Brayden Jensen said they'll perform it first at 1:30 this afternoon and at 7 p.m., with two more performances tomorrow and Thursday at 7.

The musical follows the storyline pretty closely to the Shrek movie, other than the music.

"The music in the musical is quite different, but we do get to end off the show with the song, 'Believer', which is everyone's favorite from the movie."

"Lord Farquaad is looking for Princess Fiona, and Shrek is set to find Princess Fiona, and then of course we learn that Princess Fiona is actually an ogre, just like Shrek," Jensen described.

"It's a great show. There are lots of funny things. It's appropriate for all audiences, so it'll be good to have even young audiences coming come and check out their favorite characters from the movie."

He noted they've got a great team of kids working hard on learning their roles, as well as a whole team helping out with the production.

"I've got Marcia helping with choreography and costumes, and then I've got Mary working on sets and props and that sort of thing. We've got help from Mr. Lendrum doing some of the printing of our sets. So it's great to have so many people involved."

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, available at the WCS office.

"It'd be great to have lots of people out and hoping to have big audiences. The kids have worked hard. Come check it out."
