Estevan’s annual Operation Clean Sweep has been postponed to the week of May 27 to June 1 because of ongoing wet weather.
City officials said excessive rainfall has made cleanup activities difficult to carry out safely and effectively, prompting the delay.
The City is also advising residents that the landfill site is currently very muddy and slippery. For safety reasons, and to avoid vehicles getting stuck, access is strongly recommended only for four-wheel-drive vehicles. Those without four-wheel drive are asked to postpone their visit until conditions improve.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we wait for drier conditions,” the City said in a release. “This will help ensure a successful and thorough city-wide cleanup and allow for the safe use of the municipal landfill.”
During the revised schedule, City crews will focus on key areas throughout the week, including entrances to the city, public green spaces and residential neighbourhoods.
Yard waste pickup is now scheduled for Thursday, May 29 in the north and Friday, May 30 in the south. Residents are asked to ensure their organic waste is properly bundled or bagged and placed on their driveway by 8 a.m. on their designated collection day.
The Free Landfill Weekend will now take place Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1.
