In a news conference today, Saskatchewan NDP discussed how Premier Scott Moe refused to hold a vote on keeping Saskatchewan in Canada, and now fifteen town halls promoting separatism are scheduled leading up until the end of June. The first one set for this weekend is in Saskatoon, according to the Unified Grassroots leader, Nadine Ness.
Kim Breckner, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Trade & Export Development believes the Unified Grassroots movement is a result of deep frustration with policy out of Ottawa, that has negatively impacted industries in the West. Breckner says they empathize with that and acknowledge a reset on relations with Ottawa is needed, and there is a need to have policies in place, that work with the Western economy.
The Shadow Minister says, “What we are trying to get across is, the threats of separatism does more economic harm than good and we need the Premier to take a leadership role to get that message out and to squash the talks and threats of separatism.”
Breckner says this is needed so they can move forward with the federal government to get policy that works for Saskatchewan.
