Categories

As part of the Town of Ponoka’s annual Roadway and Sidewalk Improvement Programs, micro-surfacing is scheduled to begin later this week (weather permitting). Micro-surfacing will occur along the following roadways:

• 57 Avenue between 60 Street and 63 Street;

• 46 Street between 50 Avenue and Highway 53;

• 51 Street between 48 Avenue and 53 Avenue;

• 54 Street between Highway 2A and 63 Avenue;

• 54 Avenue between 56 Street and 58 Street;

• 53 Avenue between 60 Street and 54 Avenue;

• 53 Avenue between 60 Street and 62 Street; and

• 55 Avenue between 61 Street and 63 Street.

Micro-surfacing is a proven and cost-effective treatment that extends the life of a roadway. The coating preserves the underlying pavement by preventing oxidization and moisture penetration, which slows deterioration. This helps the Town of Ponoka keep roadways in good condition and maximize the pavement lifecycle. ‘

No Parking’ signs will be placed along roadways the day before micro-surfacing is scheduled to begin. Please move parked vehicles from roadways on which ‘no parking’ signs are posted.

Removing your vehicle from the roadway when ‘No Parking’ signs are posted in advance of road work operations is a requirement under the Town’s Traffic Bylaw and can result in fines and towing of the vehicle at the owner’s expense if needed.

Other roadway and sidewalk improvements scheduled to happen in Ponoka this season as part of the Town’s annual Roadway and Sidewalk Improvement Programs include:

• Highway 53 Corridor Improvements: The Town of Ponoka has partnered with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors to complete improvements and rehabilitation of Highway 53 (between Highway 2A and 38 Street) in Ponoka;

• Ongoing pothole repairs and maintenance on roadways throughout the community; and

• Paving and concrete replacement and repair will also be happening at multiple locations throughout the community.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution and observe road signs and traffic safety personnel in construction zones. The Town of Ponoka thanks citizens for their patience as these infrastructure improvements in our community are completed over the coming months.
