Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre announced the official opposition shadow cabinet on Tuesday, May 21.

Many MPs retained their roles from previous shadow cabinets, including Foothills MP John Barlow, who was reappointed as Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Agri-Food and Food Security.

"Conservatives are proud of how our farm families and producers embrace innovation and technology to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and protect our water, soil and precious ecosystems," said Barlow in a media release. "Canadian farm families do more with less, and Conservatives see modern Canadian agriculture as part of the solution."

Barlow was given the role in 2019, after serving as Associate Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food in 2018, and Shadow Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour in 2018 and into 2019.

He was re-elected as MP for Foothills with nearly 77 per cent of the vote in the riding, or just over 35,000 ballots cast in his favour.

It was his fifth consecutive win in the region.

Another Southern Alberta MP, Rachael Thomas, was also re-appointed, retaining her role as Shadow Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
