Estevan is finally getting away from all the rain that's been bogging down the area beginning today, with a new system on the horizon. The recent weather has included some intense showers near the end of last week and some less intense rainfall at the start of this week.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg takes a look at what we saw during the most intense storms seen last week.
"Quite a rainstorm late last week. Estevan itself had 73.4 mm from Wednesday evening to Friday. Also, areas beyond that, Maryfield and Radville had upwards of 50 mm, Esterhazy at 46 mm, Yellowgrass at 43 mm, and from some volunteer observers, Radville had an observed amount of 108 mm, Kenosee Lake close to 100 mm, Wapela 93 mm, and east of Moosomin 61 mm from late last week."
A lot of rain dropped onto the southeast, with Estevan actually seeing more than the average amount of rainfall we'd usually see across the entire month of May.
Berg says that's been capped off by another system which mainly lasted from Sunday to late Wednesday, with the Estevan area receiving 25 mm to cap off the moisture.
There was also a risk of low temperatures causing some of that rain to fall as snow or other cold precipitation, but Berg says we missed out on that.
"Didn't have any reports of any frozen precipitation, so it looked like it was all rain."
Berg says that now we're moving into a warmer pattern of air, which will be joined by some sunshine through the rest of the week, though early next week does have a slight chance of developing some more rain.
