On Wednesday, Blake Richards was officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding.
He is excited to step back into the role he has held since 2008.
"When you have so many people that live in your community, put an X beside your name to say that they believe that you're the person that is best to be their champion, to fight for them, to represent our community and our citizens in the federal government, it's humbling."
Richards talked about his goal of being the federal voice for Airdrie-Cochrane.
"When I approach this job, it's about making sure I look ahead to the future, and making sure that we are setting Canada up for the best success it can have. Canada is the greatest country in the world, but we could do so much more to have this country be the most successful in the world and create more opportunities for people."
Yesterday, it was announced that Richards will also hold the role of Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs once again.
"Providing the proper support, respect and recognition for Veterans and their family members will form the basis of my goals moving forward,” Richards said.
“As Shadow Minister, I will continue to champion policies that support our veterans, ensuring they receive the respect, resources, and support they need to thrive in the transition to civilian life following their service.”
He believes that over the last decade, the liberal government hasn't shown the proper respect to those who have sacrificed their life for Canada.
"I will continue to push every day to hold the government accountable for that failure, but also to make sure that we're proposing the alternatives and the solutions that are needed to make sure that veterans have all the service and support they need."
