Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency invites all to attend the Airdrie & Area Sector Connector Disability Resource Fair, happening this afternoon! It’s your chance to explore community access supports, employment supports, independent living skills, and supported living options.
Amber Townsley is the community connection specialist at Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA), an agency that serves people of all abilities. URSA has been in Airdrie since September 2024, but is also closing in on its 40th anniversary in Calgary.
The Airdrie & Area Sector Connector Disability Resource Fair is being put on in conjunction with Community Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week, happening May 19th to 25th. Townsley sends a heartfelt shoutout to all of URSA’s professional front-line staff- true everyday heroes.
“We're hoping to share space with the community and share our resources, and just trying to make sure that you know who's available and everybody has capacity right now. We just want to make sure that you are finding the best fit for your needs, and having conversations about what might be needed in the future.”
URSA will be joined by Vecova, FAIM, Prospect, Accredited supports to the community, and Above and Beyond Care. There is no registration required for this event, and Townsley and her team hope to spend the afternoon connecting people with the services that will help them the most.
Townsley shares the reasoning behind this joint effort event.
“Historically, there were very few disability service agencies in Airdrie. Now there are six of us,” she shares. “So we collaborated and put together a Disability Resource Fair there to educate about what services are available. The agencies are working together to make sure that there is no duplication of services. And so it's just an opportunity for you to come down and see what kind of services are in Airdrie as well as surrounding areas- we also serve Rocky View County.”
URSA’s main goal is to continue to break down a multitude of barriers for all individuals and help them thrive in the community.
This non-profit charitable organization has provided services to seniors, adults, and children with developmental disabilities and brain injuries since 1985. URSA has a variety of programs
ranging from 10 hours a week in-home support to 24-hour staffed residences, as well as a variety of day programs, providing services to hundreds of individuals every year.
“We want age-appropriate services for adults with disabilities- we want them to be able to just have a typical experience, and to be able to find connection and friendship.”
Attend the Airdrie & Area Sector Connector, Thursday, May 22nd, from 1:30 to 5:30 at Nose Creek Museum. Learn more online on their event page.
“We have a lot of big dreams, and we hope to expand on our space and include more people in our program.”
