A safety operation targeting commercial vehicles in the Lake Louise area has led to dozens of enforcement actions and safety concerns being identified, according to the Lake Louise RCMP.
Between May 15 and 17 officers from Lake Louise and Banff RCMP, along with Alberta RCMP Traffic Services, Alberta Sheriffs, Alberta Transportation, and Parks Canada, inspected over 70 commercial vehicles.
The goal was to ensure vehicles were in safe working order and compliant with provincial and federal regulations. Alberta Sheriffs, including commercial vehicle inspection specialists, played a key role in the operation.
Of the vehicles inspected:
-
38 passed the safety checks,
-
20 were placed out of service,
-
12 were found to require immediate attention,
-
31 tickets were issued, and
-
19 warning tickets were handed out.
“Traffic safety is a priority for Lake Louise RCMP,” said Sergeant Susan Richter, Detachment Commander of the Lake Louise RCMP. “In this operation, we aimed to enhance public safety by focusing on three things, safe vehicles, safe drivers, and safe roads. This initiative was one way we have used education and enforcement to ensure our roadways are safe for everyone using them.”

Richter also expressed gratitude for the collaboration involved in the initiative. “I am very appreciative of the assistance provided by the Alberta Sheriffs and Parks Canada,” she added.
Authorities say operations like this are crucial for maintaining safety on highways heavily traveled by commercial traffic, especially in high-tourism areas like Lake Louise.
