Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a woman was assaulted and robbed on a bike path at Assiniboine Park.
The incident happened Saturday shortly after 1:30 p.m. just east of the Roblin Boulevard entrance.
Officers say a 25-year-old woman was walking east on Roblin Boulevard near Commissary Road when she was approached, assaulted and robbed. The assault continued until several witnesses intervened.
The police were called. However, the suspect fled before officers arrived.
The suspect involved in this incident was described as a heavy-set adult male, wearing a dark jacket with the hood up, a dark baseball cap, charcoal-coloured sweatpants, glasses or sunglasses, and black shoes.
Later in the day, at around 5:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to the Commissary Road for a medical call regarding a man who matched the description of the suspect.
The man was transported to hospital in stable condition and identified as a suspect in relation to the assault and robbery.
While no charges have been laid in this incident, the suspect remains in custody based on the strength of an unrelated unendorsed warrant.
The investigation is ongoing. However, Winnipeg police say there is no concern for public safety at this time.
