35 years and still swinging

The Winkler Mixed Slowpitch League began in 1990 and has been a summer staple ever since.

“Our league is actually celebrating 35 years this year,” Driedger said. “We started back in 1990… we’re going strong!”

Games are co-ed and require at least four women on the field per team. Teams typically play once or twice a week, making it a great fit for those with busy summer schedules.

“It’s a mixed slow pitch league, so it’s co-ed,” said Driedger. “We have seven men and four women on each team… it’s not a set team every game necessarily, but that’s part of the fun!”

Not just for pros—It’s all about fun

Don’t worry if you haven’t played since gym class.

“No, we are definitely not pros,” Driedger laughed. “It’s really about coming out, being active, and enjoying the summer. It’s a super welcoming group.”

That laid-back, community-first vibe is a big part of why Jordan keeps coming back.

“I’ll say that my favorite thing would be the teammates obviously,” he shared, “but hitting home runs is also fun!”

The magic of summer nights at Diamond 2

Games are played at local ball diamonds, including the beloved Diamond 2, known for its night lighting and signature summer atmosphere.

“It’s just an incredible place—especially when the lights turn on,” Driedger said. “There’s something about being at the ballpark in the evening. It’s a summer vibe you don’t want to miss.”

Free agent? No problem. Want to sub? Also great

Can’t commit full-time or want to dip your toes into the slowpitch scene?

“There’s also a sub list throughout the year,” Driedger added. “So if teams are short on any given game, they can call you up—and sometimes that turns into you joining a team full-time for the playoffs.”

Ready to play? Don’t miss out

If you love the sound of a bat cracking, cheering from the dugout, or just want to spend summer evenings outdoors, this is your chance to join something fun and long-running in Winkler.

As Driedger put it: “We don’t want anyone to miss out.”
