A special celebration is in the works at Moose Jaw’s Zion United Church, one that will bring together a pair of Saskatchewan musicians for a unique performance at the church’s concert hall this weekend.

Rev. Lorne Calvert, Former Premier of Saskatchewan and United Church minister says that all are welcome to attend.

The performance will feature Cara Wilson and Janet Wilson, each described by Calvert as talented musicians who stand atop their respective disciplines.

“Cara Wilson is one of Canada's leading and most accomplished solo handbell ringers. Janet Wilson is a pipe organist, and so the concert will bring together the pipe organ, the Great Casavant pipe organ in Zion, plus Cara Wilson playing her solo handbells,” said Calvert.

“We think it’s going to just be a marvelous concert to lead us into our 100th anniversary celebration.”

Calvert explained that the combination of unique musical styles and instruments makes the performance one that you do not want to miss.

“Maybe you’ve seen the handbell choirs where there's maybe a dozen ringers, each playing two or three handbells. In this case, Cara as a solo act, plays the whole range of bells by herself. It's something amazing to hear and to watch.”

“(Janet) is one the province’s most accomplished pipe organists. The pipe organ is a unique instrument, and there’s a limited number of people that can bring the music out of those great old instruments. Zion is blessed with a Great Casavant organ, one of the few in Western Canada.”

Zion United Church is located at 423 Main Street N, the show begins this Sunday at 7 p.m. and is free to attend, however, free will offerings in support of the church will be accepted.
