The Weyburn Therapeutic Animal Park is gearing up for another exciting season, with preparations well underway ahead of the official opening day on June 7th.
This Saturday, volunteers will be gathering at the park for a spring work bee starting at 10 a.m. to help clean up the grounds. The event is a key part of getting the park ready for visitors.
“Mostly tomorrow, we’re just looking at cleaning up the leaves that have been left since the fall,” explained Janay Kistanov, President and Communications Manager of the park. “We did get into a fall cleanup last year, so the spring cleanup is going to be quick and easy, I hope. Later on this year, we’re hoping to do some paint touch-ups with some of the signs.”
Thanks to strong community support, the volunteer spots for this weekend’s cleanup filled quickly.
“We’re doing pretty good. We’re expecting a good turnout tomorrow,” Kistanov said, adding, “We definitely rely on volunteers to make this park work for the community.”
The park will reopen to the public with a special Opening Day celebration on June 7th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will include a barbecue, cotton candy, refreshments, and a face painter.
“All proceeds will go towards caring for the animals for the summer and park improvements,” said Kistanov.
