With their two-week residency in Saskatoon now completed, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will hit the road for the first time in 2025, travelling to Winnipeg for a preseason matchup against the Blue Bombers on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, Saskatchewan released their depth chart for tomorrow’s game.
The Roughriders depth is already being tested before the green and white begin facing an opponent.
Both of Saskatchewan’s notable free agent signings on the offensive line, Sean McEwen (Calgary) and Phillippe Gagnon (Montreal) both suffered serious injuries during training camp and will miss significant time.
Logan Ferland will start at centre. Last season, the Melfort product was asked to fill in at centre when Peter Godber went down with an injury. On his way to being named the top offensive lineman in the Western Division, Ferland spent time playing guard, tackle and centre and has played at all five positions on the offensive line during his time with the Roughriders. When the green and white signed McEwen, it was expected that he would be in the middle of the offensive line for Saskatchewan.
Zach Fry will get a start left guard. The Roughriders second round selection in the 2022 CFL Draft, started last season and will get a look at a starting position.
For the most part, Saturday’s lineup will feature several players expected to be in the team’s starting lineup when they open the 2025 season June 5 against the Ottawa Redblacks.
Quarterback Trevor Harris will see some action, he’s followed by Jake Maier, Jack Coan, and Tommy Stevens.
A key battle on the Roughriders roster is the backup running back spot behind A.J. Ouellette. Mario Anderson has been listed as the second running back on the depth chart followed by Trent Pennix.
Notable omissions from the preseason opening lineup include DT Micah Johnson, LB CJ Reavis, OT Jermarcus Hardrick and DB Nelson Lokombo.
Saskatchewan will meet the Blue Bombers in both exhibition games. Next Friday, the two teams will battle in Regina before the wins and losses start to matter.
